The Learning English Video Project in ESLMag!

The Learning English Video Project is a groundbreaking series of documentary films that focus on students around the world who are learning English. The project is the brainchild of globetrotting EFL teacher and independent film maker, Daniel Emmerson, who describes his work in the piece "Teachers on Film". - Check out the March/April 2010 issue of ESLMag for a two page spread on TLEVP. www.eslmag.com

MMIX - An all too brief account of my year in film making, travel and education.

December 15th 2009

I returned to Poland from China exactly one week ago after spending a fascinating ten days in Hangzhou and Shanghai. My most recent visit to China was conducted in order to gather research material for my M.A. thesis and content for my next novel; which I have already started compiling. I will return to China once again next week in order to continue with my project.

For the last two days I have been attending a conference at The University of Wroclaw on the subject of China's involvement in Africa. The international array of speakers and spectators made for a refreshing and informative insight into this somewhat controversial topic that left me feeling inspired. For more information on the conference and to read some of the draft papers presented over the course of the last two days, please click on the graphic below.

'Insights from China', my next documentary film for The Learning English Video Project, is nearing completion and will be released early in the new year.

'Conversations in Spain' - Official Press Release

November 21st 2009

'Conversations in Spain', the fourth film from The Learning English Video Project, was released today. It is available to watch for free on the sponsor website EnglishClub.com. As with each of the films from the series, it comes with ESL materials for teachers and a self-study package for learners.

The film allows learners to observe natural, informal conversations in English that they might not have otherwise had access to. The conversations have been very carefully selected in that they not only provide a chance for learners to practice their listening, but also offer new ideas, tips and information about learning English in different parts of the world. As always, the film is stitched together with footage from the location settings, which are very beautiful places indeed.

'The Regional Harvest' is now available to read on High Contrast Review.

I will be returning to China once again next week in order to conduct some  research on my M.A. thesis. I have been exceptionally busy of late with study and work commitments but hope to have some new articles and photographs online soon for what may be the basis for my second novel.

The website provides free information, lesson plans, tips, advice, downloads etc. covering all aspects of English. The social networking feature ‘My English Club’ or MyEC is a brand spanking new tool that allows students, teachers and language enthusiasts to mingle online and share everything from holiday snaps to detailed grammar guidance. The site is free and easy to access on an invitation basis and well worth checking out. For more information see www.englishclub.com.

Ktoredy – A new review (Polski)

Joel Carr (assistant director Talking TEFL, The Learning English Video Project) has just launched his own website under the production company moniker ‘Nelson Productions’ –

January 09th 2009

I am writing my first and final note from Madrid, where the snow outside looms as if preparing me for the minus degrees I face on my return to Poland. With a rapid decline in employment and a distressing exchange rate, this definitely seems to be the best (but ultimately most difficult) move.

However, my trip to the continent has not all been in vein. I have shot and edited the first installment of the Learning English Video Project, which is looking for a springtime release. The eighteen minute introductory piece was shot in the capital of Spain and fronts an original electronic score by Duller In Colour bassist Tom Carr.

Today's snowy Spanish backdrop also played a large role in a somewhat spontaneous and predominantly experimental recording in Parque del Buen Retiro... more soon.
