In collaboration with the British Council, I am working on a series of documentary films about the ERASMUS Student Exchange Programme in the United Kingdom. While spending the last two years living and working in Europe, not a week went by when I did not meet somebody who had completed, or was looking forward to taking part in an ERASMUS Exchange. None of the people that I met during this period were from the UK...
...this is not to say that there is no interest in the ERASMUS programme in the UK, it is a thriving and sometimes even life changing project that allows people to experience learning abroad and make future contacts all over the world. So why is there such a huge difference between European students who have to compete for a place on the programme, and UK students who dismiss the opportunity without so much as a second thought?
This is what I want to find out.
With the help of five major UK universities, I plan to explore the experiences of ERASMUS students in an attempt to promote this wonderful and encompassing programme to university students all over the United Kingdom.
I have been working on the project since August 2008. The film is now in the editing stages - stand by for more information!
